About

My name is Furkan. I was born on July 9, 1997 in Eskişehir. I completed my pre-university education at Eskişehir Kılıçoğlu Anatolian High School. Meanwhile, I participated in professional competitions by being interested in swimming and volleyball sports. During these years, I worked hard to realize my dream of becoming an engineer at METU, which I set as my goal.

I started my university education in the Department of Civil Engineering at Middle East Technical University in 2015. During my university life, I took many responsibilities in various student societies such as ODTÜ Yapı Topluluğu and ODTÜ MOST, participated in social events, and organized organizations. After graduation, I started my Master’s Degree in Coastal and Ocean Engineering in 2021, which I set as a goal for myself during my undergraduate education. I started my academic studies with marine hazards, numerical modeling of tsunamis and tropical cyclones, and coastal resilience. After I started as a project assistant at METU Coastal and Ocean Laboratory, I started conducting laboratory experiments in our wave channel. So far, I have completed experiments on the head section stability of breakwaters, vertical walls and caisson structures, the vortex and turbulence behavior in the head section of the breakwaters, and the armor stability of the breakwater.

Currently, I am conducting laboratory experiments under the supervision of Dr. Ahmet Cevdet Yalciner about “Modeling the Effects of Different Units and Placement Methods on Wave Overtopping and Forces Acting on Crown-Walls of Rubble Mound Breakwaters” at METU Ocean Engineering Research Center Laboratory, and working on simultaneous CFD modeling of the experimental studies. With this study, I will complete my MSc thesis. I would like to complete my Ph.D. and post-doctoral education abroad to become a successful engineer and academician in this field.
